you need to either get a lower pressure in tank pump, a regulator to knock the pressure down to 6 psi, or get rid of the in tank pump and run a mechanical pump. then you need to get an older HEI distributor. this will render the computer irrelevant, so all that wiring can then be taken out- which really opens up the engine bay.Mar 19, 2015 · In my quest to improve horsepower in my Oval port 454, is there any advantage to converting my tbi to carb once I upgrade the intake? Get yourself a good set of headers, an Edelbrock Performer intake, and Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. w/electric choke. I went with a 650 edelbrock, with an air gap intake. You can check for a vacuum leak by getting a can of carb cleaner and spraying down the intake area and listen for an rpm change.
