I would like to get a shorter, more open choked barrel. It is a 26" model and weighs in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces. That's about 6.9 pounds. It is well balanced, quick to the shoulder, and easy to shuck. I also own a 1969 16 ga, 28" barrel Model 37 built on the same frame as the 20 ga model of that era. It weighs in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces and a tad.Feb 4, 2005 · The cut-down barrel pattern makes it a very short range gun indeed. I have decided to replace it with a 20 gauge M37, an even lighter gun and plenty big for deer. I require a short, rifle-sighted (but not rifled) barrel with an IC or MOD choke for 90% of the time. I will also get a 28", modified barrel just to have a second "field gun". I have an Ithaca 37 with the 7 round extended mag tube and would like to replace the remove the barrel and mag tube to clean them and replace the forend while I'm at it. I can loosen the end cap but the barrel/magazine tube clamp prevents the barrel from rotating.
